Whether you’re new to the city, visiting soon, and looking for something new to try close to home, Airdrie offers many wonderful and exciting things to do. This blooming city has a variety of venues, activities, and events for all ages and interests. We’re going to list a few of our favourite date ideas, family activities, and events to share with friends.

Date Night

Woodside Golf Course

If you’re looking for a fun day or evening out, look no further than Woodside Golf Course. This course offers leagues, tournaments, lessons, amazing food and drinks, and, of course, great golfing. This 6,200-yard course features lush greens, 9 watered areas, and challenging holes to keep you on your toes. You can also enjoy the driving range if you’re looking for a little practice. This course is open 7 days a week, so you can enjoy a day out on the green any time with a date or friends!

Airdrie Rodeo

The Airdrie Rodeo is hosted annually and offers all the joys of a mini Calgary Stampede. Watch bucking broncos and junior rodeo activities while enjoying live entertainment and delicious snacks and beverages. This is a great event to attend with your significant other, or even with family and friends. You can also bring your own picnic lunch and lawn chairs to enjoy a relaxing day in the sun with some good old-fashioned Alberta entertainment. 

For Families

Festival of Lights

Get your glow on at the Airdrie Festival of Lights! This special event has been running for 25 years, and starts December 1st and lasts until the 31st. You can take the whole family to enjoy the stunning lights and decor, as well as fun activities like skating, games, and a gift shop. There is a concession area in the centre of the park, and entertainment happening plenty of evenings over the course of the month.

Enjoy some hot cocoa near the fire, and spectacular light sculptures while you walk around the event. You can take your kids for a Santa visit, and celebrate New Year’s Eve at the event, too! The best part? Admission is completely free! Donations are a welcome fee to attend, but not necessary. The Festival of Lights is a must-see event for any family planning a visit or looking for something to enjoy near home. 

Genesis Place

Genesis Place offers a plethora of activities for the whole family to enjoy. From the giant indoor swimming pool to the fitness centre, and from the play place to skating, there’s plenty to do at Genesis Place. Drop-in during their regular hours, or book a private room for birthdays or special occasions. This venue has something for everyone to enjoy and is a great place to spend the day with the kids all year round.

Chinook Winds Regional Park

Chinook Winds Regional Park boasts over 55 acres of space for families to enjoy. This park has over 2 kilometres of paved pathways, 3 playgrounds, a skate park, a spray park, a multi-use court (seasonal), 2 Concessions (seasonal), public washrooms, a toboggan hill, beach volleyball and 4 regular volleyball courts, and 8 ball diamonds that can be contracted out. For those hot summer days, there’s no better place to be.

Kids can enjoy the open space and variety of play options while parents enjoy the beautiful landscapes and open concept. This park is open to the public 7 days a week, and the large space reduces any feelings of crowdedness. It’s a perfect spot for a quick outing or day trip that the family will love.

Iron Horse Park

Iron Horse Park features a ⅛ sized model replica of the Canadian Pacific Railway for everyone to enjoy. Take a ride on the miniature trains and get a feel for traveling on the rails in pioneer times. Admission is free, with rides costing only $3.00 apiece, and you can enjoy various events, entertainment, and food and beverages during your visit.

To Do With Friends

Century Downs Racetrack and Casino

If you’re looking for a night of non-stop fun, check out the Century Downs Racetrack and Casino. Test your luck on the slots or at the table, bet on horses, or just enjoy a cold beer in the stands. Enjoy both luxury dining and casual eating, and plenty of beverages to keep the party going all night long.

The casino often hosts special events that are affordable and fun. Open 7 days a week, you can enjoy off-track betting, the well-maintained sports bar, and hopefully win some big bucks. Spend a nice day with your friends in the stands, and finish the night off with some delicious food and perhaps a cheeky round of roulette.

Shamrock Lanes

For some fun bowling, try Shamrock Lanes in Airdrie. This 12 lane alley offers a full bar and lounge, glow-in-the-dark bowling, and party reservations. They also offer full leagues if you’re looking for something to do on a regular basis. Enjoy cold beers and beverages with your freshly made pizza or pub food.

948 Brewing Co.

Enjoy some delicious local beers at 948 Brewing Co. with your friends and family. Airdrie natives will remember when all phone numbers started with 948, and this brewery celebrates Airdrie’s history and future. You can dine in, or take your beer to go, and enjoy the cozy atmosphere. With events happening at the bar, there’s no shortage of fun and entertainment. You can also pick up locally made toques for those cold walks home after a few too many, and enjoy strong sours and pale ales 5 days a week.

There’s always something new to try near home, especially if your home is Airdrie. Being only a half-hour drive to Calgary, and minutes from amazing events, you’ll find many things to fill your time in this beautiful city.
